Head scout Robbie Laird was at the Tampa Bay/Winnipeg game tonight for the 2nd straight Lightning game. Most likely targeting Dominic Moore, Nate Thompson and (gulp) Steve Downie. Certainly a more physical upgrade over Brad Richardson.
Dan Rosen tweeted there were Kings scouts at the Montreal/NJ game as well (I mentioned last blog that Travis Moen was on the Kings radar)
The simple reason why Ryan Malone doesn’t want to waive his NTC is Florida doesn’t have a state tax, so jumping to L.A. or worse, Canada means a gigantic bite out of his wallet.
According to those that were there, there was lots of chatter in the Kings press box about Jeff Carter during the Kings win over Columbus. Is he a malcontent? Is he a party boy? Should the Kings take a chance on a TEN YEAR contract with a no-trade clause that kicks in next season? What will the new CBA rules be? Would this handicap the Kings moving forward?
Lombardi is in a precarious position. He has one year remaining on his own contract and with his current roster, the Kings would be lucky to make it to the 2nd round.
There’s not enough depth, there’s certainly not enough scoring, there’s not enough in Manchester and nobody on the 2nd or 3rd lines are big and physical.
Uncle Phil and Tim Leiweke are in “win now” mode. They’ve “trusted” Dean for 5 years and let’s be real… Unless your name is Dave Taylor, almost any decent GM could turn around a franchise in 5 years.
Carter’s career could be resurrected in L.A., but with the likes of Lindsay Lohan circling the wagons in Hollywood, Carter could most likely will be the next poster boy for TMZ.
If the Kings do trade Bernier, they’re taking a HUGE gamble that Quick will sign for what THEY think is reasonable as opposed to what Quick could possibly get on the open market. Brysgalov and Luongo and even Cam Ward are proof positive that throwing upwards of 6 million dollars a season doesn’t guarantee much of anything. Come to think of it, when will Nashville and their 7 million dollar goalie make it to the 2nd round?
Lombardi does have a legitimate simple argument. Why should he make a move when his team is 10-2-6 (26 points out of a possible 36).
Of course, now that we’ve all mentioned “Carter to the Kings” it won’t happen. 97% of rumors never happen. He’ll wind up in Anaheim and piss us off for the next 10 years.
I wonder if Darryl Sutter would implement “Dry Island?”
PANCAKES WITH PENNER!!!
The Mayor comes through as promised… but it ain’t for a buck!!!!

DO THE SWISS EVER HAVE THIS PROBLEM?
The clock stopped. That we can all agree on.
I loved, absolutely loved Dean Lombardi’s whacked explanation.
How come the NHL is fining Jackets GM Scott Howson for calling into question the integrity of the league?
Maybe Staples just has a sucky fricken Timex clock as it paused TWICE in the final 4 seconds during the Colorado LOSS on january 21st – Thanks to KingsFan28 who posted over at LGK
All these years I thought it was the Kings bad play that made the games seem longer!
Matt, if you thought CLB was super pissed going into the Kings game the other night, do you think they’ll be double secret, super duper pissed going into Analheim tonight?
I like your blog Matt but please don’t insult Dave Taylor he accomplished more than that blowhard Lombardi ever has and he did it with class.
i ALWAYS see the clock stopping and its always during the last minute. i can remember it happening against san jose. i thought it was normal or something. guess it takes an incident like this one to really bring it up.
I watch most games from my couch and have noticed that the clock done that multiple times.
What you have to check though, is does that do that on TV on away games as well.
See?! No malicious intent like Colombus coaches/players/fans/media are sort of claiming. The video of Kings/Avs game the clock stops TWICE, and there’s no way in hell the Kings can score 2 goals in 6 or 7 seconds being shorthanded. This is an NHL problem, not a Staples/Kings problem. So, anyone from Colombus crying foul, please shut your pieholes….
Likely scenario: Dean goes for depth move(s) by end of the month; takes a swing for Parise on Draft Day for a week’s worth of exclusive negotiating rights.
Mind you, this is only in the event that LA doesn’t shit the bed in the next two weeks.
Hmmm, when will Nashville and their 7 million dollar goalie make it to the 2nd round?
I’ll sayyyy……last year when they beat Anaheim four games to two.
(shakes head)
BOOM!
do u think Carter could really end up on Ducks?
anything is possible
