Coaches and Injuries
You love Doughty and Slava and Marty.
I have man crush on them, too.
Who made them?
The nice thing about having an assistant coach that flopped as a head coach is that teams are less likely to give them another chance. Did Dave Lewis ever get another shot after leaving the Kings for the Red Wings?
Davis Payne also flopped as a head coach (and some will argue as an assistant coach with the Kings, too.)
Jamie Kompon was hated so much he went out and won another Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks. Anyone think a team is stupid enough to hire HIM as their head coach? We’ll ALL be laughing our assess off when that does happen.
According to an article HERE in the Toronto Sun, teams might be waiting to see how far the Kings go before making John Steven an offer.
Which would suck.
His defensive game plans have been nothing short of amazing these past few years and Doughty, Slava and Marty have been the benefactors.
Jeff Carter is hurt folks. Pretty badly too, I’m told.
Then again, everyone at this time has bumps and bruises. I was happy to see Minnesota banging bodies with Chicago last night and hope they continue to do so. If the Kings do advance, they’re gonna need to face an opponent as banged up as they are. Last season they had nothing left for Chicago following physical series with San Jose and St Louis.
Mike Richards has been playing better but there is something definitely wrong with him. The physical toll these last few seasons have taken on him are quite obvious. As much of a “warrior” as he’s been, the Kings are going to need to free up his salary cap hit.
And why all the talk this season about getting rid of Justin Williams? He’s been absolutely great in the playoffs.
Kyle Clifford has arguably been a flop after taking one too many punches to the cranium, but he’s been a pretty good physical presence.
Is Jordan Nolan really that bad that he can’t get into the lineup?
Tanner Pearson is playing like Tyler Toffoli should be. But Tanner Pearson also hasn’t played a full season in the NHL.
Colin Fraser will eventually get back into the lineup.
Trevor Lewis has been fantastic on defense and the penalty kill.
