DANGER! Offer Sheets Coming???
Just so you get an idea of what Lombardi is up against, I have a feeling he’d better start making deals with his EIGHT restricted free agents, and fast.
- Slava Voynov
- Jonathan Bernier
- Kyle Clifford
- Trevor Lewis
- Jake Muzzin
- Alec Martinez
- Keaton Ellerby
- Jordan Nolan
What’s to stop newly hired Oilers asshole, I mean GM, Craig MacTavich from dropping a bomb on the Los Angeles Kings and tendering Jonathan Bernier a 3 million dollar offer sheet.
Here are the offer sheet compensation ranges:
- $1,110,249 or below – No Compensation
- Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 – 3rd round pick
- Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 – 2nd round pick
- Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 – 1st round pick, 3rd
- Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 – 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd
- Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 – Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd
- Over $8,410,976 – Four 1st Round Picks
You know what that will cost him? A 2nd round draft pick. About HALF of what the Kings paid for Robyn Regehr.
Lombardi could certainly MATCH the offer but now he’s stuck with trying to deal a 3 million dollar back-up goaltender. If he can’t, he’s gonna be in a world of hurt.
At the exact same time, you KNOW some GM will be salivating to throw everything at Slava Voynov. If Shea Weber can garner a 14 year 110 million dollar offer sheet from the Flyers, imagine what Holmgren will do to his old trading buddy (or maybe he’s pissed off Lombardi reunited Carter with Richards, who knows), and I’m hearing he’s preparing one. Oh, no! Rumors already!?!?
What’s to stop the defense desperate Flyers to offer Voynov xxx 7 years at 6.7 million a year. Would YOU let Voynov walk for a 1st+2nd+3rd. I wouldn’t and neither would you.
And many of the East coast teams (Pittsburgh, Montreal, Rangers) could certainly use some beef in the form of Kyle Clifford. They could severely overpay him the way the Oilers did Penner and what would Clifford get in return? A 1st and a 3rd at the most? (Okay, so maybe that WOULD be worth it)
This is on top of Lombardi trying to figure out how to retain its best UFA defenseman in Rob Scuderi as well as trying to figure out how to pay Dustin Brown the following year and re-signing (gulp!) Penner.
Lombardi still needs left wing help and ALSO has SIX OTHER RFA contracts he has to negotiate (Andrew Bodnarchuk, Brandon Kozun, Martin Jones, David Kolomatis, Brian O’Neill, Stefan Legein)
This Could be one scary off season for the Kings.
