Dustin Brown, the New Dustin Penner?
Benched last night, playing only 4 shifts in the 3rd period as the Kings “Captain?”
Benched in the Olympics as an assistant Captain?
Dumped to the 3rd line?
If he were a teenager and we were his parents, we would be suggesting Dustin Brown is on drugs and would be looking for an intervention.
If he were a Hollywood star we might be reading about him on TMZ checking into rehab.
Maybe he’s just worn out.
Maybe he’s pulling a Getzlaf and simply taking a year off.
Maybe the whole team thinks he’s like that nerd in high school that picks and eats his boogers.
Maybe he hates Sutter because he nags more than his wife.
The fact is, Dustin Brown signed a new contract and has turned into Dustin Penner. Showing up only when it really matters.
Okay, so he missed practice today because of a “bug.” Is it that “mother-in-law” flu? You know, the one, no matter WHAT you do, it just won’t go the fuck away!?!?!
Dennis Bernstein tweeted he was “hurt” and will MISS tomorrows game and may be out, “possibly longer” was the exact quote.
Maybe the Kings will get a scoring boost from having Pearson play with Carter and Richards and Toffoli playing with King and Stoll.
Darryl Sutter weighed in today:
“He’s a 20-goal scorer. So 18 in 48 is what?…You couldn’t do it over the course of his career. He’s almost 30 years old. He’s a borderline 20-goal scorer.”
7 million dollars for a “borderline” 20 goal scorer? Wasn’t Yanic Perreault a “borderline” 20 goal scorer? He never made anywhere NEAR 7 million dollars (I know, 5.85 cap hit… cash is cash people).
“So if he scores 20 and plays the whole game…then you’ve got a player. “
I wouldn’t exactly say Perreault or Jozef Stumpel were 7 million dollar players either.
“Part of getting Marian Gaborik onto this [team], it sorts it out. It puts Brownie where he should be.”
Where he SHOULD be? Darryl’s right. Everyone HERE has been saying for YEARS that Brown is a 3rd line player. Captain’s are not 3rd line players. You don’t PAY 3rd line players 5.85 million bucks for 8 years.
“Don’t expect anything more out of Dustin Brown.”
Are you fucking KIDDING? For 7 million dollars, don’t expect MORE? I’m going to be expecting a LOT more, especially a lot more than the shit he’s been throwing out on the ice on a nightly basis.
“It’s based on how you played last night and how you play tomorrow night in this league…When you don’t have a veteran team, you need your veterans. It’s not ‘captains.’ You need your veterans to be great examples for your group. Otherwise you’re going to have trouble with your ice time.”
So, Brown is supposed to lead by example… how many, other than Darryl Sutter say he’s failed miserably? How many other Captain’s in the NHL are threatened with having their ice time reduced…. correction…. HAD their ice time reduced.
Maybe the Kings got rid of the wrong Dustin.
Anybody watching the Ducks/Av’s game tonight saw another emotional game between these two clubs. Fights, a suspension coming to Eric Johnson for a delicious two fisted match penalty cross check to the face of Matty Perreault (it was a beauty) and the Ducks also lost Cam Fowler.
San Jose won again putting them in a virtual TIE. If the Kings really DO want to stay in SoCal and face the Ducks in the 1st round, they had better step up their efforts and beat the ever loving shit out of them at Staples tomorrow night and avenge that absolute horrid display at Dodger Stadium. The Ducks scored 6 goals on the Av’s. I don’t think they score 6 on the Kings.
Vancouver and Eddie Lack lost again. Awwwwwww. I guess getting rid of their long time coach who had them in 1st place for years so he could go to the Rangers and coach THEM into the playoffs was yet ANOTHER wise decision by Mike Gillis. Somebody, please, anybody, hire me so I can fail upwardly this badly.
Nashville wins its 3rd game in a row and now sits in 12th place but only 5 points out of a playoff spot. Wouldn’t this be just a great story? Have them get on a roll heading into the playoffs, upset the Blues in the 1st round. This could be fun.
