Greetings From Madison Square Garden
Tonight I was a guest of Rangers owner James Dolan – It was VIP treatment all the way with a delicious dinner and seats right on the glass at center ice -
It just so happened I was sitting right behind Alexander Ovechkin – Now, I had heard rumors this morning that the Kings were interested in acquiring Ovechkin. My colleagues text me with such messages as, “Total. Unequivocal. Bull. Shit.” Granted 99.9% of all rumors NEVER come true but I have a pretty good source who tells me, “There’s been a lot of talk about it.” Take it with a grain of salt but someone else text me that Ovechkin was offered to the Kings in a straight up swap for Drew Doughty.
You can stop laughing now.
Drew is chewing up minutes and the obvious question would be, “Who would take over his minutes?” Hell, many of you wouldn’t do this swap in the first place.
But keep in mind Voynov is gonna get PAID this off season. 5-6 million dollars I’m afraid. Does Robyn Regehr make sense? He won’t skate Drew’s minutes. Drew is making 7 million bucks and has scored 1 goal. Not his fault considering he’s had to take up the defensive slack when Mitchell and Greene were hurt.
Plus there’s Mr. Lombardi and his penchant for not liking Russian players.
Ovechkin needs a change of scenery badly. He’s overpaid for the numbers he’s put up BUT he is a superstar. Do the Kings NEED a superstar? Is this one of the reasons Tim Leiweke is no longer in charge? L.A. needs superstars. Doughty is good, but he isn’t the superstar Ovechkin is.
Chances are my colleagues are right and its pure bullshit. But, I write what people in the past have been right about and have passed that info along (not on trades but I have been very right over the years when it comes to injuries – even better than your trusted Helene with an e!)
As for the Rangers game tonight. They are not a Stanley Cup team. Nash looks great but Callahan doesn’t look the same. Gaborik is as good as gone IMO.
