Hit The Panic Button?
You can’t expect Willie Mitchell, who missed all of last season, to play 4 games in 6 nights.
You can’t expect Jake Muzzin, who has confidence issues in the first place, to not take stupid penalties game after game.
You can’t expect Drew Doughty to play his game when having to cover for Jake Muzzin every single time and not have a stay at home guy like Rob Scuderi there to back him up.
You can’t expect Martin Jones and Jonathan Quick to give up just 2 goals or less a game every game.
You can’t expect anyone other than Jeff carter to score….
There’s the problem.
The 3rd and 4th lines remain messier than a condom and a period. Lombardi hasn’t addressed the LW position.
It was Kyle Clifford’s to take – he failed
It was Matt Frattin’s to take – he failed
Tyler Toffoli? He’s a right winger.
Lombardi expects his players to “be better” all the time. Kopitar has been better. Brown has not been. Carter has been better. Richards, under the circumstances, has been decent even though he hasn’t scored.
The Kings are one Wayne Simmonds short of being “better.”
Wayne Simmonds doesn’t grow on trees and teams don’t just give away Wayne Simmonds.
Linden Vey and Tanner Pearson?
They haven’t taken the reigns like Nolan and King did when they were first called up.
There’s no doubt Lombardi is going to make a deal.
When Darryl Sutter says Clifford and Fraser were (paraphrasing here) “pretty brutal” these veterans should know their time with the Kings is coming to an end.
Clifford’s a tough kid and teams will chomp at the bit to grab this guys grit and hollow skull. Clifford has suffered numerous concussions, is seemingly always hurt in the playoffs, and will probably score a helluva lot more on a team whose goal is to score goals and not make the playoffs (are you listening Edmonton and Winnipeg?)
Lombardi’s philosophy has always been “build from within” and then add. He’s done a pretty good job but it’s up to the kids to take the brass ring when its handed to you.
“The Right Fit”
Lombardi talks about it all the time.
Cammalleri is not a right fit. I wish the media would stop saying the Kings are interested. They’re not. Much like I’m not interested in dating Amanda Bynes.
Moulson MAY be a right fit given his connection to his brother-in-law, our starting goaltender. But is he “tough?” Sure. Semin tough.
The “right fit” is a guy like what Mark Recchi was to Carolina in 05-06 and Boston in 10-11. A tough, in your face shutdown forward who scores timely goals and will punch you in the face.
Who might that be in this day and age?
KOZUN DEALT TO LEAFS FOR A JOCK STRAP
Not QUITE the deal Kings fans were looking for…
Kozun wasn’t going to surpass Vey, or even Weal, who was looking like he was next in line. The Leafs certainly like dealing with the Kings and they got a much needed center. A short one, but a much needed one.
But what the fuck did the Kings get in return for a player averaging 22 goals and 50 points a season?
Andrew Crescenzi? (isn’t this the thing that’s an attachment to a desk?)
Who will likely never play in the NHL.
“A hulking center standing 6’5, Crescenzi possesses ideal size for a bottom-six player. Offensively, he can chip in on occasion, but his success is likely to stem from defensive assignments. He moves well for a big man, and initiates contact consistently. Continued focus on his skating, specifically explosiveness, will help him become a regular in the AHL.”
So… a player who averages 20 goals and 50 points a season for a hulking, non-scoring, career AHL’er.
OMG, it’s going to be Jason Blake Part II
I guess Darryl Sutter wasn’t impresses with Linden Vey and Tanner Pearson last night as both were shipped back to Manchester and in return, the Kings recall Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Schultz (thank GOD! Can we PLEASE rest Muzzin a few games?)
From this morning: Bob McKenzie: ”Moulson will be flipped for sure. I have to believe they’ll get a prospect or a 2nd round pick. LA is def interested” – We couldn’t have given them Kozun and a 2nd? LOL – if all it takes to get Matt Moulson RIGHT NOW is a prospect or a 2nd, PULL THE FUCKING TRIGGER. (you gave up TWO 2nd for Robyn Regehr for crying out loud!)
Coulda/Shoulda/Woulda – Tomas Tatar told media outlets that the ONLY team that interviewed him during his draft year was the Kings. They opted for for Kyle Clifford instead. I would have, too.
How about THIS stalker bitch story!
