“It’s a 3-2 League”
When Jonathan Quick went down with injury, the Kings mentally knew they had to focus like a fortune teller.
And focus they did.
The unproven, untested-in-the-West Ben Scrivens was the beneficiary of superb defense but over the expected long period of time, the emotional drain would eventually take its toll.
Saturday night vs Calgary was CLEAR evidence of that, after an excellent road trip in San Jose and Vancouver, the Kings stunk like a Mexican cigar.
Tonight and tomorrow were the REAL tests to see if they could get remove the collective piano’s from their backs.
18 seconds into the contest and already the Kings were up to their usual stupidity.
But Sutter mixed and split up the lines like cocaine and the Kings came out as emotional as when Alec Baldwin meets a photographer.
Jarret Stoll was the benefactor of Sutter’s game of concentration and scored a much needed goal while the rest of the Kings were pounding the Blues like a slab of veal.
Holding the Blues to no shots in 11 minutes was a very good thing and by the time they were figuring out which freight train was running over them, Tyler Toffoli (anyone miss Trevor Lewis? ANYONE?) scored off his own rebound.
Was he finished? Is a sailor with a weekend pass in Thailand?
What I love about Willie Mitchell is when he shoots the puck from the point, he keeps it LOW so that goal scorers like Toffoli can stick it in.
Okay, so with a 3-0 lead would the Kings pull a Coyotes (4-0) or Ottawa (3-0) and blow it?
Fraser showed why he’s this years’ Brad Richardson bench warmer with a dumb slash and a late goal made Scrivens GAA go up, but overall Big Ben hasn’t allowed more than 2 goals in all of his starts.
The Kings had 52 hits and won 37 of 60 in the dots.
9 straight times the Blues have lost at Staples.
o for 20 on the pp
This I didn’t know… Kings have not allowed a 1st period goal since Nashville… on November 2nd!!! Anyone want to bet me that streak comes to an end tomorrow? The Ducks haven’t lost at home in regulation.
Finally, the Kings give their fans their monies worth.
Wouldn’t it suck if Paul Walkers car were riding on Nitto tires?
Martin Erat? Say What?
The Washington Time HERE speculates that disgruntled overpaid left winger Martin Erat will likely be dealt and mentions Alec Martinez in a possible trade.
1. Unless Washington is willing to throw in 3 mil in salary, it ain’t gonna happen.
2. In order to balance out the deal, the Kings would have to include Jarret Stoll and given Stoll’s experience here vs a new guy who complains in Erat, it ain’t gonna happen.
3. Erat WOULD fit right in however as he has ZERO GOALS in 24 games. PERFECT for this team. That’s why… it ain’t gonna happen.
4th Period Rumors (that’s Bernstien’s home)
They say HERE that the Islanders are looking for blue line help as well and ALSO mention Martinez. What, they weren’t satisfied with robbing Lombardi of Hickey, they gotta come after Marty, too?
To be honest, I’d take Matt Martin for Marty. That dude is a bull in a china shop and with the way the Blues played tonight, the Kings could certainly use some more rough and toughness. With Greene coming back soon, Marty would be expendable. Manchester has Bodnarchuk and Schultz ready.
Lombardi’s trades in December:
December 11th, 2010 – future considerations for Marco Sturm
December 30th, 2008 – Jason LaBarbera for a 7th round pick
December 10th, 2007 – Evgeni Fedorov for a 6th round pick
That’s it folks. No roster players. No major deals, just crap for crap. Martinez ain’t going nowhere.
Okay, so I’m years late to the party on this one…
