Kozun over Toffoli?
Brandon Kozun is out of options. Options to Manchester that is. He HAS to make the team or the Kings risk losing him for nothing.
Hopefully Dean Lombardi learned from his mistakes the first time when he let Rich Clune, a fixture on the Predators, or Thomas Hickey, the much debated #4 pick who was allowed to go to the Islanders for nothing.
Kozun hasn’t proven anything at the NHL level but he’s certainly paid his dues.
3 years with 23, 20 and 26 goals who is listed as 5’8″ (on skates maybe) only has a cap hit of 550k while Toffoli carries an 870K cap hit. With the Kings currently 86K over the cap (according to CapGeek), well… you do the math.
The other problem Lombardi faces are the OTHERS who are coming through the system who would be “paying their dues” only to be told “there’s no room for you” – That seemed to happen to Bud Holloway and he put on his Iron Man jet pack and skyrocketed to Europe in 1.2 seconds.
Linden Vey also has an equal shot to make the team.
Where does everyone play?
With newcomer Dan Carcillo skating with Jordan Nolan and Colin Fraser, the 3rd line would be manned by Kyle Clifford and Jarret Stoll leaving just ONE spot open for Toffoli, Kozun, Weal, Lewis AND King (2nd line LW is Matt Frattin’s to lose according to Sutter)
Doesn’t look like Tanner Pearson has much of a shot either.
Injuries are always part of the game, but the Kings aren’t going to keep a bunch of extra forwards while Manchester struggles to ice a team. There’s also the possibility that Jeff Schultz is assigned to Manchester… likely clearing waivers.
TJ Simers leaves Times for OC Register?
Had some nice parting shots as well:
“I had the chance to do something far more important than write a sports column and that was raise money for sick kids at Mattel Children’s Hospital until Times’ management said it wasn’t my job to help the misfortunate.”
“I had my differences with Times’ management, the outside influence of Frank McCourt being one of the them.”
“The Times still offers a terrific newspaper, but there is a feeling there that the newspaper is dead.”
Speaking of ripping, Simon Gagne takes a shot at L.A. (you won a cup here you ungrateful frog!)
“It wasn’t as easy to get motivated in Los Angeles, where I played on the fourth line with teammates whose roles were to dump the puck in the “opponent’s zone.” I wasn’t having fun playing in Los Angeles, when I didn’t play on the fourth line, I’d be in the press-box questioning myself.”
So let me get this straight… Gagne one played with Carter AND Richards, and when he WAS reunited with Carter and Richards he sucked, so he wound up on the 4th line, where he sucked.
For the 3.5 million dollars he was making, I would have stood behind Helene Elliott in the press box and sniffed her farts.
I can’t post this at LGK but I can post it here:
If you’re on the ROAD (or out of the country) and can’t find the Kings game?
For every single game (with weird European commercials)
How come the REAL story about why Ron Hextall left the Kings hasn’t come out yet?
Am I the only one who keeps forgetting Keaton Ellerby is on the team?
