Loyalty, Mr. Blake is Dustin Brown
See Mr. Blake, THIS is loyalty.
Dustin Brown could have played out the season and let himself go onto the open market and likely would have received much much much much much bigger offers than the 5.75 he signed with the Kings.
Dustin Brown didn’t sell out to the highest bidder. Dustin Brown didn’t rip the “C” off his jersey. Dustin Brown decided to forego the greed of being the highest paid King to being a “team” player. Also allowing Lombardi room to keep the Kings in contention for the next 5-6 years.
THAT’S being a “leader”.
I hate that Lombardi refers to Rob Blake as a “leader”? When has Rob Blake led anything? Did Rob Blake “lead” the Kings to the Stanley Cup finals? Did Rob Blake “lead” the Kings to the playoffs year after year? Following the SC Finals in 83, Blake “led” the Kings to just 8 playoff games in 10 years! EIGHT!!! (They were swept both times) Was it Rob Blake who “led” the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup? Or how about the Sharks? WHAT THE FUCK HAS ROB BLAKE DONE TO DESERVE THE TITLE OF “LEADER?” He lifts weights starting at 7am?
I know, I know. Get over it.
I can’t stand hypocrisy and Rob Blake being called a “leader” is not only that, it’s an oxymoron.
No wonder they didn’t invite me to the round table discussion. I might have had a heart attack and I don’t think anyone would want that on their conscience.
As for Dustin Brown, I applaud the shit out of him and one day HIS name will be in the rafters. Of course, I will have long given up on the Kings and hockey as years earlier the Kings will have hoisted Rob Blake’s stupid #4 and I will have sworn off the Kings forever.
Wait a minute… Dustin Brown fired his agent Scott Norton before negotiating this contract and stiffed him out of a cool 1.41 million dollar commission. Was this influenced by Rob Blake? LOL.
FYI, Dustin Brown took less NEXT year than Rob Blake took SIX YEARS AGO!!!!
To show you what an incredible BARGAIN this signing is, lets look at the Kings payroll from 7 years ago
Handzus (4 million)
Cammalleri (3.35 million)
Frolov (2.9 million)
Calder (2.75 million)
Blake (6 million)
Preissing (2.75 million)
Cloutier (3.1 million)
The Kings “core” is pretty set for a while. Let’s hope we can afford Anze Kopitar in 3 years.
Can DL lock up Matt Greene now? Cheaply. Please. So we don’t have to worry about losing Greene AND Mitchell next season?
As for Lombardi… it took him TWO DAYS to praise Hextall. Yeah, no bitterness there.
And how come Darryl didn’t ask DL about the acquisition of Carcillo?
BTW big props to Dennis Bernstein and The Mayor for breaking all of this fantastic Kings news. Me on the other hand, has a JOB.
Now, onto the good stuff.
Kyle Clifford to…
Montreal – Bernstein says it ain’t gonna happen. I say never say never and Montreal has prospects Lombardi loves (LeBlanc for one)
Vancouver – Please stop. Lombardi will NEVER deal him to Vancouver.
Edmonton – Don’t think this happens here either as they’ll be in the same division/conference/whatever next season (I think) and isn’t Edmonton tired of losing in deals to the Kings?
Flyers – Please, for the love of God, no more deals with the Flyers.
Islanders – I’ll gladly take back Matt Martin and a draft pick. That guy kicked Wayne Simmonds ass twice.
New Jersey – They offered Lombardi their 1st round draft pick for him. For a second he was excited before saying… “Wait a minute…!”
Detroit – now that they’re in the East, they’re gonna need some toughness.
I find it a little odd that Denis Grebeshkov and Thomas Hickey both sign deals on the same day.
