Martinez Signed – What’s Next?
Alec Martinez signed a 2 year deal tonight worth an average cap hit of 1.1 million dollars.
The Kings now have NINE defensemen on their roster. The Mayor believes there won’t be a deal until after training camp as the competition for 7 of those nine spots should be fierce.
But NOW with less than 3 million dollars in cap space, how does Lombardi sign:
and make space should the following players make the team?
- Kozun (who would have to be waived if he were to be sent to Manchester I believe and a team like Calgary or Florida would grab him)
- Cliche (who would also have to be waived, but doubtful anyone picks him up)
What does this also mean for Nic Deslauriers, Andrew Campbell and Andrew Bodnarchuk? Basically a season of riding the bus with very little chance of making the show.
It very well could be Lombardi is waiting to see how Willie Mitchell progresses over the next few months or to shut him down entirely. Should Mitchell pass his physical, Lombardi would HAVE to deal an asset like Jarret Stoll in order to give himself some “wiggle” room in case a few forwards get hurt during the season.
Either way, there’s GOING to be a trade. It’s just a matter of WHEN.
I got beat like a Russian hooker when I mentioned Mike Richards would be the odd man out. He carries a 5.75 cap hit but a 7.3 dollar figure. Would you consider trading him for Ryan Nugent Hopkins and his 3.775 cap hit?
And where does this leave Pancakes?
Gosh, remember when the Kings defense was…
Lubo – Norstrom
Corvo – Gleason
Dempsey – Miller
Lombardi even gave away Drewiskie, too!
