Muzzin Signs – Trade Talk – Penner
Jake Muzzin, who had a cap hit of .578 last season nearly doubled that with a 2 year deal at a million a year.
If Muzzin doubles his salary, what does that make Trevor Lewis worth, who made 700,000 – what does Alec Martinez made, who make 738,000 bucks. LESS than Muzzin? And what’s Kyle Clifford now worth? Certainly more than the 680,000 (870K cap hit) he made a season ago. Jordan Nolan made 532,000 and if he were to win anything over 750,000, the Kings may just let him go.
This certainly spells the end of Dustin Penner who seems as though he wants to remain a King rather than ply his wares in a cold climate where the press isn’t so friendly on out of shape non-scoring power forwards.
Lombardi said, “I guess it’s safe to say I have a limited amount of cap space left, and there certainly isn’t going to be enough to – I mean his requirements. I talked to him the other day, and I just told him. I talked to his agent a couple days ago and [said] ‘This is where we’re at. I’ve only got X amount left.’”
Bob Stauffer, Oilers insider and personal friends with Penner, said a few days ago that he has offers in the table from 4 teams. The Kings AND Ducks are 2 of the 4. OC Beatwriter Eric Stephens also confirmed Ducks have interest in Penner.
With the Kings signing Jeff Schultz and Willie Mitchell likely to play during the season, the Kings have 7 defensemen under contract. Martinez would make 8.
Cap Geek says the Kings have just 4.2 million to sign those 4 players (plus trying to get Bud Holloway, too) – something has to give.
Nolan is cheap.
Clifford is going to take up a majority of that.
Lewis will take the rest.
Martinez will be dealt. He has to be dealt. Even he knows he’s going to be dealt. Can Lombardi get more than a 5th round pick please?
This is really funny and embarrassing
