My Head Exploded, Did Yours?
I was happier than a little girl who just got a Barbie for her birthday. I was ready to leave Staples Center early, come home and give my wife the high kind-of-hard one. I was ready to write a really happy blog that would make my readers smile and donate their paycheck to needy children’s funds.
But that feeling lasted exactly one period.
After all, I am, like you, a Kings fan, and unlike being a Red Wings fan where THEY don’t blow 4-0 leads, I anticipated the meltdown just as I expect a kick in the crotch when I come home at 3am stinking of booze and having lipstick on my collar.
- Power Play Goal? Check
– 5 on 5 goals? Check
- LW problem solved? Check (nice hattie Mr. King!)
– The Captain benefitting being on the 3rd line where he belongs? Check
- Kopitar finally scores a goal and was a beast? Check
- Richard finally scores (shorthanded, no less)? Check
- Frattin finally scores a goal? Check
But were you as pissed off as I was when…
a) Quick and the defense allowed 4 goals in a game?
b) The Kings blowing at least a 3 goal lead for the 2nd time in 11 games?
c) Muzzin taking this single dumbest fucking slashing penalty just after Phoenix tied the score?
Keaton Ellerby is grinning from ear to ear. And Jake Muzzin and his fading level of confidence traded to Edmonton in 5..4..3..2..
There ARE bizarre games like this during a season. I just didn’t expect it to happen tonight.
Following 3 power play goals allowed against Calgary, I didn’t expect the Kings to allow another for quite some time. WRONG
Following a blown 3-0 lead against Ottawa, there was NO WAY the Kings were gonna blow a 4 goal lead, right? Only a Terry Murray coached team in the playoffs does THAT, right? RIGHT?
So what is WRONG with this team? Bless them for coming back, bless Mike Richards for his 28th shorthanded goal of his career. Bless Dwight King for his hat trick. Bless my wife for attending a game for the first time in 7 years and being a good luck charm, then a jinx, then a good luck charm again.
Jake Muzzin is absolutely dreadful. I cannot say it enough. I’m actually gonna watch the DVR of the game, come back to this blog and point out how horrible he was. Benched from the 10:41 mark of the 3rd until the end of the game. It wasn’t soon enough.
Quick needed to make several spectacular saves just to keep the Kings in the game.
This felt like a game from the 1980’s.
The Kings cut down on their penalties to just 4. Guess who had two of them?
Yeah, I’m so glad the Oilers got pasted tonight and the Kings play on Sunday… you know, when the players aren’t playing on Saturday night… in Manhattan Beach. The Oilers next opponent? Phoenix. Saturday.
There might be a few bobble heads thrown on the ice.
Even with no left wingers, Clifford was scratched? He’s THAT BAD?
I’m not enjoying this win like I should be.
