My Response to Dustin Penner
You gotta love Penner! (I do, he’s actually a great guy! I especially love Playoff Penner)
But in an exclusive interview with The Mayor John Hoven, Penner talked about his future and especially about pay cuts.
“I took less to come back last year, so it just depends how much, right? Let’s say you’re making 10 million dollars and to come back you’d have to come back for 1 million. That’s something you have to weigh in as well. Big discount…everything is relative. I’m just saying, for people to understand, it’s not a simple thing – ‘Oh, you didn’t take a pay cut’. Well, think of your job and your situation. If you we’re getting paid $50,000 as a writer for the LA Times and they said ‘Well, we’d love to keep you, but we can only pay you $10,000′ – but, the Orange Country Register offered to pay you $40,000, where would you go? You’d have to think about it.”
Everything is relative?”
Okay, Dustin, lets break this down:
If I were getting paid $50,000 as a writer for the LA Times and I SUCKED AT WRITING FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR and they said, “We’d love to keep you even though you pretty much sucked the entire year after we told you to start writing better and you didn’t, but we can only pay you $10,000…”
If the OC Register is offering me $10,000 dollars LESS than what I was making at the times after SUCKING all season (a 20% reduction by the way), then the people at the OC Register are COMPLETE IDIOTS.
Get MY drift, Dustin?
I mean, everything is “relative” right?
He made 4.25 million dollars for 5 years with the Oilers and Kings. Lets add that up: That’s 21.5 million dollars.
Wait, is that a TYPO?
Twenty One MILLION dollars???
And he “generously” took a 1 million dollar pay CUT from the year before because, well, HE SUCKED THE YEAR BEFORE TOO!!! (23 goals, 45 points to 7 goals, 10 assists!!!)
So, now we’re up to…
TWENTY FIVE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!
Let’s take a look at the salaries of wingers who totaled 14 points this season, who weren’t injured.
Jason Chimera – 1.75 million
Beau Bennett – 900K
Stephen Gionta – 562K
Boyd Gordon – 1.35 million
Kyle Chipchura – 675K
TJ Galiardi – 950K
Brandon Prust – 2.5 million
Jochen Hecht – 1.25 million
Trevor Lewis – 725K
Antoine Roussel – 613K
Kyle Clifford – 870K
Dave Bolland – 3.375 million
Charlie Coyle – 975K
Olli Jokinen – 4.5 million
So how much ARE you worth compared to these guys, Dustin?
Everything is RELATIVE, right?
I mean, THESE guys all scored 14 points. One even won a Stanley Cup, just like you did last year.
By MY math, 1.4 million is what a 14 point player is worth. Don’t get me started on what a whopping TWO GOAL player is worth.
