Now That I’ve Had Time to Digest The Deal…
Lombardi got robbed like a Wells Fargo bank.
Frattin didn’t make the Leafs out of training camp.
Randy Carlysle said, “The issue was, in the week that he had with us, he didn’t demonstrate the things we thought were his strengths. If he’s not taking the body and skating, he’s not an effective player.”
Sounds like the 2nd coming of Fro-Loaf to me.
I’ve seen the YouTube highlights and read everything Toronto fans have said about the guy. NOBODY has said he’s first line material while the majority of people in the know are all saying Bernier could be THE goaltender.
I mean, the BEST we can hope for is that he’ll be a 2nd line winger but in reality, it looks as though he’s 3rd line material. At least Jarret Stoll’s jumping on a trampoline at the thought of no longer having to dish the biscuit to Dwight “hands of cement” King
The Kings got a late 2nd round pick, which will look more like an early 3rd round pick. (Quick, how many players from pick #55-61 have had an impact in the NHL? (no pulling the Wayne Simmonds card either)
Toronto also included a back-up goaltender who is a UFA after next year and has been fairly unimpressive as a back-up goaltender.
Instead of a 1st and Matt Martin from the Islanders?
Instead of Matt Read (if they could have re-signed him)? Read this part again. I said, “IF”
Instead of Zucker and Kuemper from Minnesota? (creams in jeans thinking about that one that got away, puts jeans in wash hiding them from wife) – Okay, so maybe Zucker wasn’t even OFFERED! Can you loosen the noose a little please?
IMO this wasn’t one of Lombardi’s better deals. Not for Bernier. He COULD have just KEPT the dude. It’s not like he was going anywhere. I know, I know, he PROMISED!
I guess since this deal had been in the works for a month, Lombardi felt loyal, and MAYBE the Maple Leafs adding that extra half a million meant closing the deal, but this was the best that was offered? MAYBE IT WAS!
Maybe it was pure and simple a salary cap deal… but I’m not buying it. Martin makes 1 million and is signed for 3 more years. Kuemper makes 900, Zucker 833.
Did Lombardi pull the trigger too soon?.
Minnesota’s gonna be scrambling now. The Flyers now have to KEEP the weird goaltender whom his teammates hate. The Islanders will have to go goalie shopping again. Bernier really could have been the goaltender to get them to the next level.
The Wild, the Flyers and the Islanders blew it. Pure and Simple.
If Frattin fails at LW, the Kings, who are already fucked at LW, are even more fucked, and that’s with Playoff Penner leaving as well (unless he just doesn’t want to go back to Edmonton no matter how much money is offered. He’s proven he can be lazy as hell here and still get paid 3 million bucks)
