THE DRAFT RECAP
BRYAN MURRAY BAFFLES ME:
VEY TRADED FOR A 2ND
Considering a) Vey needed to be signed b) With Richards staying and Lewis likely the 4th line c Vey didn’t have a spot and c) Vey would have had to pass through waivers and rather than risk another Thomas Hickey situation, Lombardi absolutely stole a 2nd from Vancouver + Desjardin was Vey’s coach in Medicine Hat. He’ll be great in Vancouver.
The 2nd pick was a player that absolutely fell into the Kings lap. Again, I’ve never seen the kid play but those who have say the Kings got a STEAL in Roland McKeown who was ranked anywhere from 20 to 26th. He “fell” from 15th to 27th.
Plus we all know Lombardi’s luck in drafting in the 2nd round.
Alex Lintuniemi was selected in the 3rd round and the Kings might as well have drafted Bugs Bunny as he wasn’t in any of the cheap books I had and had to do an internet search to find this: “Lintuniemi is a big strong two-way blue liner who uses his size well to defend, can handle the puck, makes a strong outlet pass and joins the rush but has some inconsistency issues in his game and slower feet that need to be addressed. (November 2013)”
Scouting Report: Courtesy a Finnish hockey enthusiast (as he chooses to be called), “A big all-around defenseman. Far from a finished product, but has pretty good upside. Skating looks a bit lumbering and he needs to work on his lateral and backward movement. Uses his reach and stick quite effectively to harass opponents, but occasionally gets too easily beaten one-on-one. Took noticeable strides in his development this past season, gained poise with the puck and became steadier defensively. Was a 1st pairing defeseman for Finland at the U18 World Championship’s. Has the potential to go in the first three rounds of the 2014 NHL Draft if his development continues on a good path. Should eventually do quite well in the OHL, provided he adapts off the ice.”
Michael Amadio was drafted 90th, was ranked 81st and the magazine says “2 way center with pp skills. tough to play against” Wait, wasn’t that the Kings logo a few years ago when they weren’t tough to play against?
Strengths – Michael Amadio is one of the most defensively responsible players in this draft class. He’s a very smart player with a high hockey IQ, and he always understands where to be on the ice. His positioning defensively is excellent, and he’s always strong on the back check. He often takes on tough assignments and plays against opposing team’s best offensive players, and he does a good job of holding his own and shadowing them. With the puck, he keeps things simple and doesn’t force a play if it isn’t there. He’s very smart with the puck and goes through his progressions quickly. I think his vision and playmaking ability is very underrated, and that he does a good job of moving himself around the ice to create angles or lanes to get passes/shots through. His shot has some power to it and it’s fairly accurate, as well. He can cycle, protect the puck well along the boards, and he’s very strong on his skates. His skating ability is relatively good, as it doesn’t hinder his ability to play a strong 200-foot game. Amadio is an excellent penalty killer, and I think he has a little more offense to give than we’ve seen to this point.
Weaknesses – I think Amadio’s biggest weakness is simply that he doesn’t have high-end offensive upside. He can chip in offensively, but he’ll never be a big point producer or game breaker. His game is very well rounded overall. If he can add some explosiveness in his first three steps and continue to hone his skills elsewhere, he should be fine.
Career Projection – Amadio projects to be a third line center who can chip in here and there offensively, but is primarily used in defensive situations and as a penalty killer.
TORONTO STILL TRYING TO PRY RICHARDS AWAY?
My boy Eklund insists they’ve upped their ante to try and pry Richards away and the Kings could sure use the cap break (maybe sign Iginla for a year or two? Reunite him with Sutter?)
“Dale Tallon is on the Phone!!!”
OMG – maybe he was ordering a 2-for-1 special from Papa John’s.
“Hextall stepped out. He looked SERIOUS”
Hextall wouldn’t smile if he were in a room with Larry David and Louis CK
“Dean Lombardi is picking his nose!!!!”
“Bob Murray just FARTED!”
Seriously? Social media just went into the cesspool.
…. and the Flyers fans yelling “Sucks” after every team was announced wasn’t “cute.” It wasn’t “passionate fans” it was a collection of assholes. It’s the simple reason God hasn’t blessed them with a Stanley Cup Since Captain & Tenille sang “Love Will Keep Us Together”
I love how they yelled “Sucks” after Los Angeles was announced. Considering they Kings have won TWO cups in the time 90% of the idiots yelling “sucks” were even BORN just goes to show you how moronic they are.
All the talk about teams trading the #1 pick, the #2 pick, the #3,4,5 pick… I guess it didn’t matter because once again IT DIDN’T MOVE.
ONLY ONE PLAYER TRADE THE WHOLE NIGHT?????
How many “insiders” had Neal for Hornqvist? ABSOLUTELY NONE!!!! How did the Predators improve themselves? Horngvist actually being able to play with others that can SCORE? He may put in 40 this year. The “insiders” collectively were 0 for 2,654 as NONE of their predictions came true.
Garth Snow LIVE: “Critics shit on me, too!” CLASSIC! James Duthie didn’t know what to say and his “joke” to Yzerman went over about as well at Hitler jokes at Passover.
Was that Brian Burke or Benjamin Franklin?
So Lemieux’s kid sucks? He won’t last until #60.
The cap is now 2 million LESS than expected and the Kings till have to sign King, McNabb, Vey, Andreoff, Berube and re-sign either Schultz or Campbell. All for 3 million dollars? Good luck, Dean.
You’re all giving me shit for saying Dustin Brown should be traded. You also gave me shit for Brian Boyle when he scored 2 goals in one game for the Kings. “Eat a bag of dicks” was one such quote. A year later he was shipped off to the Rangers.
The Arizona Coyotes of Glendale will now need a center now that Ribiero needs “serious therapy” – Please grab Yandle, Dean. The Coyotes have lots of money to spare.
I’ve never seen this kid play. I didn’t even know who he was until I read a magazine. Looking at him on stage I’m not even sure his balls have dropped. I’ll be 55 when he reaches the NHL but since Blake’s number will be retired by then, I will have boycotted the Kings so I’ll probably never see his first goal, or being relegated to the 4th line because he sucks like Kyle Clifford. – By the time he DOES play, Richards, Williams, Stoll and Greene will be gone and I’ll just be fatter.
Who gets traded tomorrow? Lombardi’s M.O. is to stockpile for NEXT year’s draft (allegedly a good one)
Fo all of those thinking that the Canucks ripped off the Ducks, think again. Bonino had a career year playing with Getzlaf, Perry, Selanne, etc. Maybe he does well with the Sedin’s (lord knows Anson Carter sure did) but don’t think for a second the Ducks were robbed. Sbisa is now on his 3rd team at 24. Doesn’t that TELL you something?
Ryan Kesler behind Getzlaf is EXACTLY what the Ducks needed. You know, the Ducks that RAN AWAY with the CONFERENCE this year and just got BETTER?
I know I’ll be wearing my bathing cap and swim goggles more often for when Kesler DOES dive.
The Ducks also picked up Richie Rich who is going to be pounding the Kings like a slab of veal in a few years. Smelly-Pelley AND Richie-Rich? Ugh.
VANCOUVER NOT FINISHED:
The new GM sure made a splash by dealing Jason Garrison who was so overrated and so overpaid by the prior GM, Benning was lucky to get what he got for him.
But a 3rd round pick for a 4th liner in Dorsett? THAT was severe overpayment. Like 2nd round pick for George Parros overpayment.
JERSEY’S FOR SALE
I’m shopping for another house so I’ll be selling off some collectibles. Most likely to either GameWornAuctions.net or ClassicAuctions.net… but I’ll post ‘em next blog – many of them the Kings 1st jersey’s.
