The Kings Are Not in Playoff Mode
These Santa Ana winds have whipped chaos into my sinus cavity causing a really massive headache.
Tonights game didn’t help.
If Darryl Sutter was unhappy with his top line after the Dallas game, I can imagine he’s picking up a cricket paddle and smacking each Kings player on the ass as they step out of the shower.
Much like my wife over the past month, the Kings simply went through the motions.
Last season at this time the Kings won 6 straight games and were fighting for their playoff lives.
The Blues recorded their 3rd straight shutout and have won 6 straight games. THEY’RE IN PLAYOFF MODE
The Sharks faced a desperate Detroit team tonight and beat them in Michigan. They have points in nine of their last 10 games. THEY’RE IN PLAYOFF MODE
Anaheim? 5 of 7. Dallas? 3 straight? Vancouver? 4 straight and 10 of their last 12.
The Kings haven’t won in regulation in 3 straight games.
That is NOT playoff hockey. That’s not even pond hockey.
Jonathan Quick was playing playoff hockey and he’s the ONLY reason the title of this thread isn’t THE SHIT I TOOK THIS MORNING WAS MORE EXCITING.
- The Kings were coming off of an awful game in Dallas
- They were facing a Colorado team that likely has the 1st pick in the draft
- They were facing a Colorado team that played last night
- They were facing a 20 year old rookie goaltender who has more letters in his name than a scrabble board, and was making his NHL debut.
They started out fine. They gave the rookie a very nice “Welcome to the NHL, son” with 2 quick goals.
Then they went to sleep again, just like the other night in Dallas.
Colorado crept back into the game and the game had to be decided by a shootout.
Now considering the last 6 shots the opposition had taken had ALL found the back of the net, I was not confident nor enthusiastic having to face Colorado’s snipers.
But I’m glad the Kings remembered how to beat Giguere from his days with the Ducks and the Kings came away with a 3-2 victory. Maybe it was just my throbbing skull. The penalty kill was good. Regehr was really good.
I guess I should be happy they won, but considering for the past month I’ve been watching Kings games on my computer until 1:30 in the morning in New York, this was the first game I got to see Kings hockey live in months (it was live Rangers and Flyers games for me), so yeah, I wanted a beatdown. I wanted a smackdown. I wanted a beheading.
Saturday should be the REAL test. To see if the REAL Kings teams shows up against the Ducks.
Kopitar has 1 goal in 13 games.
Fucking Yard House didn’t even have my Bass Ale!
Here’s something you don’t hear everyday at Staples: “Look, Penner’s hustling!”
Last game #77 was the 1st star of the game and the LATeam store sold merchandise at 77% off. Tonight, #10 was the 1st star and the people that work at the LATeam store were very happy.
Thanks to the really cool season ticket rep for the swag, but more importantly, for reading this blog while drinking your morning coffee. Here… I wanna try an make you spill it. Ready?
