Thoughts Before Free Agency
So let me get this straight… the CBA expires in 8 years, yet players who are being bought out are still being paid for 8 years after the agreement expires? #MakesNoSense
I love that Mike Ribiero’s wife went to twitter to voice her frustration that her greedy husband, at 34, is seeking a 5 year deal and shocked that the Capitals are letting him test the free agent waters that include Lecavalier and Briere. Quick, in order, which players would YOU rather have at 5 million dollars a season?
According to CapGeek there are 271 UFA’s that are available to negotiate with starting tomorrow but only 15 of the 30 teams have 9 million dollars or more in cap space. Only NINE of those teams have only 17 players or LESS actually signed (Toronto has only 12 signed)
Remember THIS Al Murray and Dave Taylor?
This, from CBC this morning:
24. A few months ago, Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi said every salary-cap move was made with an eye on Dustin Brown, scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next summer. There were some rumours Brown, who is underpaid by NHL standards, wanted a massive increase on his next contract — to Corey Perry/Ryan Getzlaf levels. Upon looking into it, one source reached out to say that isn’t the case. Brown will get a (deserved) raise, but is not interested in destroying the team’s salary structure.
My good friend on Hockeybuzz chimed in about the Kings and Bruins talking about Tyler Seguin. My source just text me, “no, they’re not.”
