Top 10 Picks ARE Traded
All this talk about teams not dealing top 10 picks is nonsense.
Jordan Staal was traded LAST SEASON for the #8 pick
The Caps selected Filip Forsberg in the deal that sent Varlamov to the Av’s
Jeff Carter brought back Sean Couturier with the #8 pick from Columbus
Phil Kessel netted Dougie Hamilton plus some other player whose name I forget for the #2 pick a year earlier
Erik Johnson went to the Blues for the #11 pick
Olli Jokinen brought back a #13 pick in 2010 from Calgary
Even the Kings traded up to #15 to draft Derek Forbort
Keith Tkachuk brought Atlanta Bogosian. That same year the Islanders traded down a few times. The Preds had the #9 pick in the deal that sent Vokoun to the Panthers
Even the Kings stupidly, stupidly, stupidly traded the pick that eventually became Jake Gardiner AND the pick that eventually became Tyler Myers just so they could draft Colten Teubert, whom the dealt for Dustin Penner
I could keep going but I think I’ve already proven my point.
Right now, the #16 pick was traded by the Wild for Jason Pominville. To think this will be the ONLY top 16 deal is like saying David Hasselhoff wins father of the year award.
Lombardi is trying to move up.
He COULD execute a BLOCKBUSTER trading Brown and Bernier or Richards and Bernier or ________ and Bernier, but Lombardi IS going to make a deal. He always does. Can we just all PRAY it doesn’t wind up Thomas Hickey who flopped worse than Owen Wilson’s latest film, or Colten Teubert who was so bad the DRAFT PICK the Kings acquired (Oscar Klefborn) has not surpassed him on the depth chart!
THE WILLIE MITCHELL DILEMMA
Willie Mitchell was caught on tape doing some ice capades moves
It doesn’t mean a thing
If even if he makes a full recover by September 11th (less than 3 months away), he’ll likely not be ready for an entire YEAR of grinding play.
Because he’s injured (I believe) they can’t buy him out and they can’t put Him on LTIL until the beginning of the season, which means they can’t replace him and they can’t give Scuderi a raise.
When healthy, Mitchell is dominant. I’ve loved him ever since his Minnesota days. He’s got his cup and there’s nothing for Mitchell left to prove.
But it really does fuck the Kings. At least they’ll have 3.5 million at the trade deadline to make a splash.
