Was Mike Richards worth trading Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn and what turned out to be Nicklas Grossman?
The Kings won the Stanley Cup so the obvious answer would be a resounding, “yes”
It was a lot to give up for Richards who didn’t have a great season at all while Simmonds and Schenn both had their best years ever and continue to grow with the Flyers.
The Kings are in the same position this season.
Tyler Toffoli has been lighting up the AHL (28g, 20a) and is undoubtedly the Kings top prospect. Is he worth trading for a rental like Iginla? Knowing Lombardi, the answer would be “hell, no”. If it were for a player with several years left on his contract that could make an impact, sure.
Could the Kings work on a blockbuster deal with Buffalo that would send them Bernier and Toffoli? Sure, anything is possible, but I’m gonna stick with my guns and say its Quick who is dealt in the off season and not Bernier.
I think its funny that Dennis Bernstien tweeted Toffoli WASN’T untouchable but the Mayor tweeted he WAS untouchable.

I love how hockey’s future has “Level of Success: C” for Jake Muzzin, and Jordan Nolan, who has a Stanley Cup ring, is only rated a “6.0″ while Nick Ebert Paul LaDue and Tomas Hyka are all rated “7.0″

Worried about the Ducks? Don’t. Once their defense gets hurt, its all over for them. Don’t forget, Bruce Boudreau took a stellar Washington team, EXPECTED to win it all to 2 1st round exits and 2 second round exits before being fired. The post season is a whole different ballgame.

I hope they don’t trade Toffoli. I want to see this kid blossom with the Kings and take a roster spot eventually. You can’t just trade away all your top prospects for rentals. Maybe 1 or 2 in the past was OK, but to keep doing it would be asinine. You’ve gotta keep some of the promising kids in the system. Besides, I don’t want Iginla on the Kings.
Unfortunately Dean doesn’t want players that score. That’s evident with the resigning of Penner and Stoll, the signings of Ladislav Nagy, Alyn McCauley, Scott Thorton, Kyle Calder. Just look at the kids they’ve traded away…Purcell, Loktionov, Schenn, Moulson just to name a few. They even traded away Gagne, who on his worst day is better than Penner. He wants guys that can grind it out, cycle the puck, but most importantly play in their own end.
I think Bernier will give Dean the middle finger and become a free agent. They can’t trade away Quick as Dean will be seen as the guy you can’t trust to sign a long term deal with. He gave big contracts to Visnovski…traded, then Jack Johnson…traded. What high profile free agents will ever sign with at track record?
I hope not! I He’s a homegrown goal scorer, something the kings organization has been unable to develop in a while.
I sure as hell hope that we don’t give up either Bernier or Toffoli, and not for Iginla. I think I’d rather see Quick get traded instead of Bernier, Quick is great but he sucks this year and Bernier is playing great, I’m not saying that Quick won’t turn it around but what if he doesn’t, what if last year was as good as it’s going to get for Quick, if his stats are going to suck without Greene and Mitchell, that can’t be an excuse for that, Bernier’s stats are a hell of a lot better in the same situation. A great goalie is great no matter if injuries occur or not to the d-men. Give Bernier the #1 and see how he handles it and let Quick sit and watch.
Bernier is a RFA this summer, so hes basically fingerless next year unless he gets traded.
You’re right about Bernier, my bad.
Then there’s no point in trading Bernier. He’s playing better right now than Quick. Let’s remember that aside from his Stanley Cup run last year, Quick wasn’t getting the big stops against VAN and SJ in the previous first rounds. One good cup run does not a great goaltender make, see Antti Niemi. Perhaps Quick is still not 100%, coming off back surgery in the offseason.
Remember all the years of begging for a great goaltender? 27 games and your ready to trade away one? Would you really take an unproven playoff goaltender into the post-season with the way the way this Kings team plays? How many quality shots did Quick face in the playoffs last year before the forwards finally scored.
Keeping the cup winning team together has important significance in a posiotive way. I agree Quick needs to step up, but he is a proud guy and if he is not fully recovered from surgery, wait it out. Bernier has the makin’s of a very good goalie, Sutter needs to play these guys in the right way, hopefully he will. We still need a physical d player above whzat we have.

Please don’t trade Toffoli or Bernier. I agree with u Barry, keep Bernier and trade Quick. I stay stick with the team we have, they play well when the forecheck hard and cycle…all of which I did not see in their 4 losses (Van, Dal, Pho, SJ (better game, Niemi made good saves)). Richards line with Penner and Carter seem to be on hyatus (too much sun at the beach), they are not forechecking hard or cycling like they were on there winning streak. That line needs to step up more as well as the others. Voynov looked crappy last night for the first time in a long while.
Stay with this team…they are champs and we will do it again.
