Voynov Locked Up – Bernier Fires Agent – Rumors Galore!
Even before the GM meetings start tomorrow in Boston, Lombardi got his priority in order by signing Voynov. Now he can focus on other things, like how to free up cap space to get Iginla.
Lombardi and Company do it again! 6 years from now 4.17 million is going to be like a million. Free agents will be commanding 8 million and we’ll have one helluva bargain on our hands.
All for a cap hit lower than Jack Johnson’s?
Credit the brass for getting this monkey off their back! Now, if we can just get someone to take the Willie Mitchell contract!
On Sunday Jon Bernier fired his longtime agent who stood by him through thick and thin, the rough times, the lean times… all so he could get a better deal with Pat Brisson’s team at CAA. Has he forgotten he’s a RESTRICTED free agent, hasn’t been a starter and can’t command shit? It’ll be interesting to see if Lombardi allows teams to negotiate with him first. I certainly wouldn’t. What if the kid is looking for a multi year deal at 3 mil a year? POOF, there goes the deal, there goes Lombardi’s leverage

1% of rumors come true…
Nick Kypreos as well as the Toronto Sun says “Kings Could Be Close to Moving Benier” with Toronto and the Flyers Front Runners
Arthur Staple of Newsday says multiple sources inform him the Isles are in the mix as well, stating, “Kings are only seeking prospects or young players in return.” That could mean the Islanders first round pick, Nino Niederreiter, or others.
Philly.com claims a source says it could be Coutourier or Read
Earlier reports had the Flyers NOT buying out Bryz, but Paul Homgren then told the always reliable Tim Panaccio at 7:18 pacific time…
If The Kings Trade For Jakob Voracek When They Could Have Had Him in The First Place Instead of Thomas “It’ll Pay Off in the End” Hickey, I’m Gonna Be Pissed!
What happened to all of the New Jersey Devils talk? Lou wouldn’t dare deal the #9 pick, would he?
I’ll say the Islanders.
1) There’s no fucking way Lombardi deals with Tim Lie-weekly, even if he is friends with Burke… Oh, wait, he’s not there anymore.
2) Nino is a LW, is big, and can score
3) Coutourier is a center and Matt Read is one year away from being a UFA
But what about Scuderi?
a) He’s not going to take less than Voynov or Josi, so think 4.5 which is what other D-men who don’t have 2 cups are making
b) He wants a 4 year deal.
Here is what the chart looks like after the Voynov signing.
Replace Willie Mitchell with a veteran D-man making 3.5 million and we’re in business. Would Read (a pending FA) and Coburn (3 years left at 4.5) be worth it? I’d rather pay Scuderi and if he sucks, buy him out.
Kings will likely keep Keaton Ellerby who will thrive under a full training camp with Darryl Sutter’s system
Congrats to Grand Rapids for winning the Calder Cup for the first time ever and for the first time ever for ALL Grand Rapids teams. The radio announcer was in absolute tears and I was laughing my ass off listening to him blubber away. It’s the AHL dude.
