What’s So Great About the Hobey Baker Winners?
Long time “Friends” star Matt LeBlanc won the Hobey Baker award for outstanding college…. wait… sorry… I’m on these back pain pills and my computer screen keeps floating and a hand keeps reaching out of it to scratch my nose… let me try this again.
DREW LeBlanc won the award then stupidly signed with the Chicago Blackhawks, who, much like the Kings, don’t NEED an unproven college hockey player.
I mean, seriously. I remember the days when Dean Lombardi had to promise a much heralded collegiate slug like Joe Piskula 5 games in the NHL just to pry him away from the likes of the Penguins. Guess what? It took him 5 more years to play 5 more games again in the NHL with the Calgary Flames, and now he’ll disappear like my cash did after dinner tonight (which was crappy by the way, and I let Yelp know it!).
NHL scouts are pretty damn good and can spot a NHL type player a mile away. So if you haven’t been drafted, chances are you suck. But the odds that maybe you mature and make a name for yourself in the NHL are about the same as you not contracting an STD by going raw dog with a Pattaya bar girl.
But why do they always make such a big fricken DEAL out of this thing?
Blake Geoffrion was checked so hard, they found him on the wrong side of the Mason/Dixson county line and is likely out of hockey.
Matt Gilroy bounced around the Rangers, the Lightning and the Senators in just TWO YEARS. He finally just gave up and put everything into a POD.
Kevin Porter signed with the Coyotes, who promptly traded him after one season. He did have ONE decent year for the Av’s, then forgot how to skate and score and was promptly dealt to Buffalo for a salted pretzel.
Ryan Duncan wound up becoming friends with “Django Unchained” star Christoph Waltz in Austria
Matt Carle, okay I’ll give you Matt Carle because he has a great first name.
Marty Sertich, Junior Lessard, Peter Sejna? Were these original 3 Stooge names?
You have to go all the way back to 2001 when Ryan Miller won it.
All this hype, with little to nothing to show for it. Kind of like anything Hillary Duff does.
The West is tighter than a virgin convention.
Is it just me or are the Chicago Blackhawks rooting for ANYONE but Detroit?
How come the Kings can’t win their final home game? It’s going to wind up being a home ice advantage 2 million dollar game.
2012 – Lost to San Jose 3-2 in OT
2011 – Lost to Anaheim 3-1
2010 – Lost to Colorado in a shootout
2009 – Beat San Jose
2008 – Lost 4-3 against the Ducks
Maybe it is the Kings season after all??? Kobe tore his achilles and is out for the year. Which means no Laker playoffs. Which means better ice conditions for the Kings.
Remember it was only a few years ago the Kings were offering lower bowl seats for $11.50??? Remember that?
